It is my honor and privilege to serve the people of the 14th Legislative District as their Suffolk County Legislator. I am proud to bring over 30 years of government and organized labor experience to County Government, and thrilled to represent the roughly 1.5 million residents of Suffolk County as Presiding Officer of the Legislature. As a legislator I have made it my mission to bolster our public safety resources, bring fiscal responsibility back the Suffolk County, protect and improve our county’s great parks, to ensure the South Shore recovers completely from all the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, and so much more.
Since being elected Presiding Officer in 2022, I have been able to work with my peers across County government to promote the technological advancement and increased staffing of our law enforcement agencies and District Attorney’s Office. We have expanded the conservation minded use of our parks and historic sites, and we have made significant steps to balance the County budget – including the establishment of various contingency funds.
Kevin began his career in government in 1990 when he was elected to serve as Trustee and Deputy Mayor of Lindenhurst, the largest Village in Suffolk County with more than 28,000 residents and an $11.6 million annual budget.
As Deputy Mayor and Trustee, he was responsible for overseeing operations at the Department of Public Works and the Fire Department and represents the Village at many official and community functions. Year after year Kevin helped balance the budget in Lindenhurst Village, and even helped maintain a surplus. Making Lindenhurst Village one of the few municipalities to not have an operational deficit.
During the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, Kevin served as the Village’s liaison with relief groups that helped Lindenhurst get back on its feet. Today he remains an advocate and resource, helping residents recover from Sandy’s wrath. Kevin has also delivered effective government services by helping to provide decades of funding to develop and maintain some of the best village-owned ball fields and parks in Suffolk County.
As he began making a difference as Deputy Mayor, Kevin was also elected to the Teamsters Local 707 Executive Board in 1995 and then President in 2000 - a position he still holds today. He also took on the role of Fund Manager of the Union’s Benefit Funds around 10 years ago, where he is responsible for the daily operations of the Pension and Health Funds. Kevin is also a former Coach for the Lindenhurst Little League and CYO Basketball and maintains active membership in the Lindenhurst Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Kevin and his wife Julie, a former Registered Nurse, have been married for over 35 years, and are the proud parents of two children. Their son Mike serves as a Detective in the New York City Police Department and their daughter Katie serves as Assistant to the Mayor in the Village of Lindenhurst.
